Pamucak Beach
A coastal escape near Ephesus
Pamucak Beach, sometimes called Ephesus Beach, is a long sandy stretch of the Aegean coastline west of Selcuk. It offers a relaxing contrast to the ancient ruins of Ephesus.
Natural setting and history
Pamucak lies near the Kucuk Menderes River mouth. Sediment deposited across the coastal plain contributed to changes in the shoreline over thousands of years and to the decline of Ephesus's ancient harbor.
Swimming and relaxing
Sections of the wide beach are used for swimming, sunbathing and coastal walks. Sea conditions can change quickly with wind and waves; observe warnings and use designated swimming areas where possible.
Sunset and photography
The open western coastline offers sunset views and space for photography. Dunes and nearby natural habitats should be treated carefully.
Nearby activities
Depending on the season, some beach areas have facilities, while other stretches remain more natural. Local operators and nearby resorts may offer recreational activities; availability varies.
Location and transport
From Ephesus Palace the beach is estimated at about 10 kilometers, roughly 15 minutes by car. Taxis and private cars are usually the simplest way to reach a particular beach access point. Local minibus routes should be confirmed in advance.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn is generally the main beach season. May, June, September and early October may provide pleasant temperatures, subject to sea and weather conditions.
Combine with Ephesus
Visit the archaeological site early, have lunch in Selcuk and spend the afternoon by the sea. Ephesus Palace is conveniently situated for both cultural sightseeing and the beach.
Practical tips
Bring water, sunscreen and footwear suitable for sand. Beach services may not operate outside summer. Respect protected vegetation and remove any rubbish.
